In the concluding Biathlon race of the EYOWF 2011, the mixed relay in Břízky, the German athletes swept to a clear victory. The team consisting of Julia Bartolmaes, Laura Dahlmeier, Roman Rees and Matthias Dorfer dominated the race from the very start and took the gold almost five minutes ahead of second-placed Norway, with the French coming in third.
The Germans were favourites on paper but nobody expected such a confident and crushing victory. "We fought as a team and we all performed well. It was a nice run. When you know you can bring gold back to your country, everything seems easy and you have so much power to spare," enthused the last man of the golden Germans, athlete Matthias Dorfer.
In the final section of the race, the French and Norwegians battled for second position.
Just before the last shooting it looked as if the Silver medal would go to the representatives of the land of the Gallic Cockerel. However, the Norwegian skier, Bø, produced a brilliant quick-fire burst at the last stop and secured second position for his country with his flawless effort.
"When I saw the Frenchman go to the penalty loop, I told myself that I needed to shoot quickly and accurately, and I did," said the young Norwegian.
The Czech quartet composed of Kristýna Černá, Jessica Jislová, Tomáš Vojík and Lukáš Jíra fought for fourth place, but eventually had to settle for eleventh.
